A 19-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection to an April shooting at the Oakwood Terrace Apartments.
Trayveon “Duke” Alexander, of Pensacola, was arrested early Wednesday morning by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and charged with attempted murder, carrying a concealed weapon, use or display of a firearm during the commission of a felony and probation violation.
He was booked into the Escambia County Jail without a chance for bond and remained in custody as noon Wednesday.
ECSO investigators spoke with at least five people who either witnessed the shooting or the events that led up to a man being shot in the stomach April 16 at the apartment complex at 700 Truman Ave.
Around 3:30 p.m. April 16, the victim was involved in a verbal altercation with at least four other people outside of an apartment.
The victim was arguing with Woddie Smith Jr. when witnesses said Alexander approached and fired one bullet into the victim’s stomach before he took off running, according to Alexander’s arrest report.
The victim told deputies he did not know Alexander or Smith prior to the incident. He said he was arguing with a “random dude” when an unknown man walked over and shot him, according to the report.
The victim survived and told authorities he wanted to press charges against his assailant.
Law enforcement determined Alexander’s identity based on numerous interviews with witnesses and involved parties, as well as social media.
Authorities are also searching for Smith, who is wanted on suspicion of battery in connection to the case. ECSO spokeswoman Amber Southard told the News Journal that as of Wednesday, Smith remained at-large.
