The Tom Thumb location on East Nine Mile Road is temporarily closed after an employee tested positive for the coronavirus.

According to a statement from the company, the store will be closed until crews can thoroughly clean the building.

"One of Tom Thumb's Team Members at our 1405 East Nine Mile Road, Pensacola, FL location has informed us that they have tested positive for Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). We are taking all appropriate steps following guidance from local health officials," the company said in emailed statement. "We closed the store at 4:30 p.m. (EST) on Tuesday, Aug. 11th to be cleaned and sanitized by an industrial cleaning crew. The store will re-open in the next few days. We are grateful to all our customers for their patience and understanding during this time.

"All Team Members who work at the store have been contacted and advised to follow CDC-recommended guidelines," the statement continued. "We are making every effort to provide the affected Team Member and our broader team with the necessary resources and support."

A Tom Thumb store in Gulf Breeze closed down for a few days in July after an employee there also tested positive for the virus.
