Parenting during a pandemic is no small feat. As one of my friends likes to say, motherhood is a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week, 365-day-a-year job. And when looking at the additional set of challenges the pandemic presents, it's easy to imagine how overwhelming it may feel.

But Pensacola Mom Collective founders and owners Jane Lauter and Jen Kinsella are working to assure moms in Northwest Florida that they are not alone.

Pensacola Mom Collective aims to provide a place for other mothers to feel comfort and connection.

"We want to share stories that make other moms feel connected to one another, and create a community where all moms are celebrated, loved, supported and empowered," Kinsella said.

As part of a greater initiative called City Mom Collective, Pensacola Mom Collective taps into a wealth of resources that include a community calendar, Pensacola local guides, in- person events and stories of motherhood.

"This is something Jen and I have been wanting to do for a while," Lauter said. "I can't think of any one thing in particular that made us want to do it. But for me, having to switch to online learning made me realize that we all need to lean on each other. I'm not a teacher, but I had to become one."

From schoolwork strategy to planning your best Sunday Funday with your kids, and to personal issues such as allergies and medical conditions, Pensacola Mom Collective's diverse team of 26 writers makes sure all bases are covered.

"Our writers come from all walks of life," Lauter said. "We have moms with kids who have cancer. We have single moms. We have step-moms."

In addition to sharing information, visitors also have an opportunity to purchase VIP membership cards. These cards allow members to receive discounts at local retail shops, restaurants and attractions. There are only 100 cards available, so they'll be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis. These membership cards are just one more way to bolster Pensacola and her local economy.

"We are passionate about Pensacola and what it has to offer families and mothers in all ages and stages of life," Lauter said.

According to Lauter, there's a basic need for humans to interact. While the virtual platform fulfills that need, after the pandemic passes, they hope to host at least one event a year.

Pensacola Mom Collective launched Aug. 5 and is looking for you to join their growing community. For more information, visit pensacola.momcollective.com.
